According to Washington Post contributor Suzi Parker, Sarah Palin quit Fox News to join, you guessed it, Al Jazeera.
Miss Parker seems to have been the latest to fall for a satirical news item on the Web, claiming that the former presidential candidate joined the fledgling network in order to reach a “broader audience.”
“As you all know, I’m not a big fan of newspapers, journalists, news anchors and the liberal media in general,” Palin said, according to satirical news site The Daily Currant. “But I met with the folks at Al-JaJizzraa (sic) and they told me they reach millions of devoutly religious people who don’t watch CBS or CNN. That tells me they don’t have a liberal bias.”
“We think Mrs. Sarah Palin will be a wonderful addition to our network,” said Sheikh Hamad bin Thamer bin Mohammed bin Thani Al-Thani, chairman of Al Jazeera, the satire continued.
Miss Parker pounced on the seemingly obvious parody as truth, only to have her article scrubbed and rewritten a few hours later.
“The Sarah Palin Story is a cautionary tale about what can happen when politics and celebrity meet,” Miss Parker wrote in the article titled, “Sarah Palin’s plan to reach ‘millions of devoutly religious people’ through al-Jazeera.”
“Ironically, Fox News recently called Al Jazeera ‘an anti-American terror mouthpiece,’” she continued. “Bless her heart, is Palin trying her best to stay relevant while her 15 minutes fades into the political history books?”
Now the piece is titled, “Sarah Palin tries to stay relevant,” where the contributor paints Miss Palin as a washed out, has-been who is still desperately trying to cling onto the spotlight.
This isn’t the first time The Daily Currant has fooled the masses. Just a couple weeks ago, the site was responsible for a slew of hatred aimed at conservative pundit Ann Coulter, who according to the website, refused to board a flight because it had a black pilot.
